Stalled Out

Okay, so after a week of a feeling nauseated every day and thus not working out or running at all...I now feel like I'm starting my training to train all over again. My stomach is still not back to 100%...but I don't feel like I can wait any more...so with Brian home tomorrow...I'm going to aim for an outside run...sometime in between like 15 other things on my to-do list. Tomorrow will be Feb. 1st and I hoped to be in a lot better position than I am with only 4.5 months left till the big race...such is life I guess...there's always something to get us off track. I'm sending good wishes to Adrienne in AZ right now that she'll find a house to buy and not have had another wasted trip. Good luck Captain!

Freakin' Friction!

Do any of you have problems with friction? I sometimes get blisters on my feet or toes and rashes under my sports bra or underarms (usually when I'm wearing a tank top.) This happens without fail on my long runs (12 miles or more.) I found a product at Walgreens by the band-aids that's a friction blocker that you just rub on. It's terrific. I haven't had any issues since I've been using this. Just wanted to share.

Two steps forward and one step Back

Mama said there would be days like this! Or was it weeks? I think this little post is more for myself than anyone but thought maybe some of you out there have these lull's too. Last week was crazy for me. A frustrating trip to Arizona to find a house followed by a week full of puking and cleaning up from 4 sick little kids and one sick mama and a husband out of town. So yesterday I head to the gym finally and run what felt like a meager 4 miles. Slow and steady and I think to myself "wow, I was gone for one little week and I feel like I've lost so much". Does this happen to anyone else out there? One week I'm running double digit miles then the next I can barely eek out 4. My point is that I have to tell myself to just keep going and you'll get through. If you have days like this, don't get down just keep going and hang in there. The only time you lose is if you quit trying. Mind over mileage ladies. As long as it's two steps forward and one step back and not two steps back and one step forward I think I'll be okay. Happy running everyone.

What was that?? Another SHOUT OUT NEEDED? WHOO WHOO!

Since I'm the only one obnoxious enough to post stuff on here constantly I wanted to give another Shout out to teammate Sarah Bacher for running the Rock and Roll Marathon last weekend!! Seriously so Awesome!! Whoo Whoo! I was in Phoenix that weekend too and could have did a big hoorah for you as I drove around looking at houses...who knew. Next year-- everyone is invited to crash in AZ at my place (if I ever find a house) and we'll all do the Rock and Roll Marathon together! Rock on! Great Job! P.S. We want to hear all about it! Pictures!?!

Too Fast

Okay...so I don't know about you guys...but picking my preferred legs today scared me a little. I haven't got as much running in so far this year as I should have...I like to blame the snow and the short daylight hours...the treadmill only works for about 40 mins. for me. I'm hoping to get in a pretty good run Friday morning on the top of our hotel this weekend in Denver..I guess they have a rooftop track. We'll see how motivated I am with no kids to get me up.

June is coming faster than I'm ready for...

Down to Business

As you know February is fast approaching and I need to get things organized for our race as it is official training time. The first thing I would like to get checked off the list is what leg of the race everybody is going to run. Please send me an email of your 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick for what # you would like to be. Don't know what I'm talking about? Check the Wasatch Back website and take a look at the legs each runner runs. Choose according to your ability and according to what your goal is for you to accomplish. Hopefully everyone will choose different legs and we will all get to run what we would like but realistically we will probably have some overlapping but Tara and I will try our best to accommodate everyone's preferred legs. If you are a stronger runner (you know who you are) don't pick the easy legs cause I won't give them to you. Plenty of time to train for any of the legs! Let me know! If I don't hear from you I'll assume you want the hardest leg. Happy Running everyone!

Go to the website, click on course maps, then on runner distance chart and that will give you an idea of what #runner you want to be.

SHOUT OUT! WHOO WHOO!

I just want to give a huge shout out to our fellow team member JEN LORCH for running the Walt Disney World MARATHON this weekend! How awesome is that! I want to hear all about it and if you do too leave a comment. Come on Jen don't be shy! :)

(If you have accomplished something fabulous lately don't be afraid to share, it keeps the rest of us motivated)

What's on your feet?

Sometime this month, I will be buying new running shoes - my race shoes.  I've always run in Asics and I like them, but I'm totally willing to try new ones.  Since I'm not a hardcore runner (yet!?!), and you ladies are... tell me what you wear so I can try them out when I get the chance to go shopping.  Thanks!

(Tara, I remember you saying something about your Nike's, but I don't remember the model name?)

Tip of the day: MAXIMIZE IN 45!

Wahoo we have a blog! Yeah! Thanks Tara. So a lot of us are starting out the new year with New Year's resolutions and one of the most important parts of working out and getting prepared for our race is nutrition! Don't overlook this. Maximize in 45! If I've heard this once, I've heard it a million times. After your run be sure to get a good balance of protein and carbs in your body within 45 minutes of your run or workout. Sooner is better. Why? It helps your body to not only keep your metabolism going, burning more calories, but it also helps your body to rebuild and be ready for tomorrow's workout. You don't have to eat a ton. For me it's about 100 calories of something, usually 1/2 a protein bar (depending on what kind), a handful of nuts, banana, 1/3 of a protein shake (my kids take over the rest) and a whole shake is too many calories for me. Since I'm a gym rat I keep stuff in my gym bag and eat it right after my workout. Waiting until I get home takes too long. What do you eat after your workout?

Happy New Year!

Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Are we all ready to start pounding the pavement? (I know some of you are already diligently doing that--but I'm excited to get back on track!)

So, here is our BLOG. I'll try to get us all added as author's so we can all post when and what we want to.

I am also creating us a BlogFrog community where we can go and ask questions or give tips. I think posts will work best if we have a story to tell, or inspiration to share, healthy recipes, killer workout, etc. If we have a question or just want everyone's opinion on something, I think the Community will be the best way to go.

Happy Running!
